The RIGHT function returns a number of characters from the right side of text in a cell. Using RIGHT is fairly straightforward and is particularly useful when you paste or import data that has text strings for which you only want to see/use a portion of it.

RIGHT takes 1 required argument and 1 optional argument:

Syntax: RIGHT(text, [num_chars])

Using the RIGHT function:
The arguments for the RIGHT function are:
Argument Required? Description
text Required The text string that contains the characters you want to extract, or a reference to a column that contains text.
num_chars Optional The number of characters you want RIGHT to extract; is omitted, 1. You can also use a reference to a column that contains numbers.


RIGHT is a simple but useful function to return only certain length of the right portion of text in any cell.
